Chitina Alaska; Dip Netting for Copper River Sockeye and Chinook Salmon

A tradition for many Alaskans is our annual trip to Chitina Alaska for king and red salmon dip netting where we harvest some of the world’s best salmon for our tables for the coming year. My Buddies Steve, Paul and I set out on June 7 for two days of dip netting from a boat. Another tradition we follow is for new fisherman and women to kiss the king salmon to insure good luck on future fishing trips. The annual salmon harvest is commonly followed by smoking part of the catch so we can enjoy smoked salmon throughout the year.
